I acquired a spares donor car a couple of months ago and have started breaking it. It is a 1983 Horizon 1.5GLS 4-speed version without power steering and is a non-runner due to having been stored in a lockup for nearly 20 years.
Although I will be keeping quite a few parts for my other two Horizons, I definitely will not be needing the blue velour seats with matching dashboard and door trims, blue carpets etc.
I would also appreciate any advice on parts which I ought to put aside, for example, should I go to the extent of saving the cylinder head or any major steering/suspension components?
OK, 12 months on and not much has changed: a couple of other major projects got in the way and the Horizon has not been touched.
However, it is now very much 'in the way' and needs to go soon. I want to cut out the offside rear quarter (in remarkably good condition, considering the rusty state of the rest of the car) and take the fuel tank out to keep as a spare, but the rest is more or less available.
I will wait long enough to advertise in the next club magazine, after which I will need to be weighing it in for scrap. If anybody wants to buy anything off it in the meantime, please get in touch.
Another 2 years down the line and it is still here, lol
The interior found a good home, although I still have the dash.
The rear offside quarter is now removed, along with the fuel tank (which was half full of 20-year old petrol!) and radiator to keep as spares, I will be keeping the rear suspension arms and springs too, just in case.
Does anybody want anything before it goes? There is still a whole 1442 engine and 5-speed gearbox in there: I don't really have the time to remove it or space to store it, but if anybody wants to come along and take it out, I am sure a deal can be struck. Or even come along and take the whole 'remains' of the car!
Well, it took 7 years in the end, but it has finally gone off to the crusher. All that was left was a rolling shell with front and rear windscreens! I had intended to save the driveshafts, rear axle and arms, but ran out of time and storage space in the end.
Engine and gearbox went to a good home, as did the interior and the steering wheel. Most of the other parts are stored awaiting use on my other two Horizons if needed.
