Hi Olivier And 'Bonne Annee 2015' to you too. My RHD 1200S WILL go back on the road in 2015. I am now checking over and cleaning up the engine and gearbox ready to go back in. My problem is I have so many other projects to work on at the same time. The 1100VF2 pickup is waiting for the snow to clear so I can fit the engine and my Rallye 2 needs the front bodywork repairing after a crash I had early in 2014. Will update my posts here and on simca-competition soon. Mick
The racing 1000's look well. Some of the SIMCA 1000s I raced on the circuits. The big arched red & blue car is RCY 938M that I sold when I gave up racing in '98 and bought back as a wreck years later... Itis the gren one I've used for various PPC events.
photos double up for 1100 pickup resto and the 1200S coupe. The snow has kept me in the garage so have put some hours in on the engines for the two cars. The 1204cc engine on the twin 35PHH solex carbs is the original engine due to go back in the 1200S after checking over and cleaning up. The transverse engine on twin DCNF webers is bound for the pickup. It has been built up from parts taken from two Bagheers engines and should give the old pickup a real power boost.
I do know the photos Olivier..... I took them last Sunday when I was over at my Brother's. I sent them to David Dietz (dietzdrummer) My brother has got a RHD 1200S too.... so we have got two out of the six RHD 1200S made in the family. Three more still exist with SIMCA Club UK members in various states of (dis)repair. Kev, my brother has got his on the road now, just needing the paint finishing. He has fitted a pair of DCOE webers in place of the Solex carbs that were causing trouble. I didn't get my RHD 1200S finished in 2015, I decided to get my VF2 pickup mobile again instead but the coupe will be finished this year. It did have an outing to the Practical Classics Restoration Show at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre early in March.... on the trailer behind the pickup (now with a 1442 twin carb Bagheera engine)... The whole outfit was on our club stand.
Finally have got back to working on my 1200S. Have completed rack & pinion steering conversion. Needed steering column to suit. I found that the column from a '77 SIMCA 1000 I intended to use was too short. The lower section from a MATRA Bagheera came to the rescue being a few cm longer. More rubbing down needed to blend I arch repairs. Next job will be to fit engine and box after refitting fuel tank and its surround, with its 1001 fiddly screws. Paint will wait until it's up and running.
The latest issue of club mag. L'Aronde that I'm currently putting the finishing touches to, contains a full write up of the restoration of brother Kev's RHD 1200S. He bought it part restored after two owners had had extensive work done but decided to move it on.
